Remarkable, vivacious, courageous. Harlan's smile and giggle will forever be remembered as infectious and constant during his nearly four years of life.
Our lives dramatically changed on February 7, 2013 when our sweet boy, Harlan "The Hero", was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor, Ependymoma. For nearly two years, our brave boy fought through his original diagnosis, relapse and everything in between. He endured multiple surgeries, 66 radiation treatments, 4 cycles of chemotherapy and countless "pokes" and "boo boos". In the 7 months before Harlan passed, he lost his ability to walk, play, express himself verbally and so much more of his independence. On October 25, 2014, Harlan gained his perfect "kind blue" wings and left his body that had been tortured for far too long. He was finally free to be the 4-year old boy he so deserved to be.
Harlan's Heroes is dedicated to spread awareness and aid those affected by pediatric cancer, with an emphasis on recurring and terminal brain cancer. Our mission is to provide the entire family with help, hope and care.
So much is available for patients and families at the time of "original" diagnosis; grants, gift cards, toys, etc. Unfortunately, when a patient relapses many foundations come up empty handed for the child and family. Harlan's Heroes' goal is to ease some of the burdens that only a select few know and understand that accompany with relapse and terminal illness.
Harlan’s Heroes provides "give backs" for individuals once approved through an application screening process. These give backs are not predetermined, but are instead customizable to the child and family’s needs. Every effort is made to help children and families create lasting memories without the concern of daily living expenses.
Harlan's Heroes is not limited to individual "give backs." We strive to give back to the oncology children and families on all levels through different events at St. Jude affiliated Hemby Children's Hospital and Blume Hematology and Oncology. These two facilities have a very special place in our hearts as this is where Harlan was treated during his battle.
Harlan’s Heroes is 100% volunteer based. ALL funds raised benefit the children and families we serve.
Harlan's Heroes is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
It is our goal and mission to keep Harlan's legacy alive by raging the battle on pediatric cancer and being advocates for patients and families in all aspects.
Thank you for your generous support!
